For nearly 90 years, Camp Wediko has thoughtfully combined a true summer camp experience with therapy and individual supports, providing a fun-filled seasonal adventure for youth who otherwise wouldn't have access to such a key developmental experience.
Campers come from all over the country and bring with them a myriad of life experiences, strengths, and challenges. Wediko staff specializes in working with students who present with a wide variety of mental health struggles encompassing emotional regulation, acting-out behaviors, executive functioning and impulsivity issues, and social skills deficits.
Campers live in cabins and spend their days in constant motion, enjoying outdoor activities and participating in periods of literacy, math and science to help them carry social and emotional skills into the classroom. Special events are also planned throughout the summer, including talent shows, themed dinners and more! Click here for an example of what a typical day for campers can look like.
Wediko’s therapeutic milieu is the primary intervention, where staff and clinicians develop strong relationships with each camper, focus on the camper’s strengths, and help them make social and emotional gains. The staff to camper ratio is 1:2, which allows us to provide intensive supports to campers when they struggle, as well as to actively support and challenge campers who may not always appear to be a “squeaky wheel.”
As opposed to an outpatient therapy model, our clinicians live on campus and are embedded within the milieu. Clinicians work with campers every day and in-the-moment, within the context of the program. The clinicians also facilitate daily group therapy and develop individual and group interventions to support each camper.
Camp Wediko offers a 1:2 staff to student ratio and includes an experienced and dedicated team of Clinicians, Residential Counselors, Teachers, and Nurses. If you’re interested in learning, working hard, having fun, and building lasting connections with other staff members, please consider applying to work with us here! Applications are accepted and reviewed on a rolling basis until all positions are filled. Room and board is provided for all staff members for the duration of the summer.
