Our greatest volunteer need continues to be adult mentors for adolescents and teens. A mentor is an interested and committed adult who spends 2-4 hours of quality time per week with a mentee over the course of a year or more.
After a brief getting-to-know-each-other period, facilitated by program staff, mentors are encouraged to participate in community activities with their mentees. Some of the activities our kids enjoy include bike riding, taking in a movie, going to a ball game or a show, grabbing a slice of pizza, reading a book together, fishing, ice skating, or just taking a drive. Many of our older kids would benefit from help learning to take public transportation, finding a part time job, or exploring continued education opportunities as well.
